Darjeeling Heritage Toy Train Tour
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the DHR or Toy Train is an UNESCO Heritage and is over 100 years old. It was built in 1881 with a hope that it will climb the mountain starting from plains of Siliguri 100 m (328 ft) to about 2,200 m (7,218 ft) at Darjeeling. The journey was successful with 6 zig zags and 5 loops between the plains of Siliguri to the Hills of Darjeeling.
In early days the train was used for passenger and goods carrier from the plains of the Siliguri. With the change in time people started using bus and taxi service and trucks for goods. Soon the train became useful for the tourist only. In 2001 Diesel engine was added for operation.
